Abstract This paper deals with the effect of direct voltage (DC) on the discharge phenomena at insulator surface. A model and perform simulations of discharge phenomena base on RLC equivalent circuit method. The described model allows to simulate and evaluate the effect of DC voltage to the propagation of electrical arc on the insulator surface; parameters of this process such as electric charge, resistance, radius, current, voltage, velocity are simulated based on dynamic model. The model also allows estimating of voltage rating and conductive layer distribution on insulator surface to the arc propagation and flashover.
