Abstract: In this study, SiC-50Cu composite coatings were deposited on steel substrate by plasma spray technique in argon gas. The plasma spray parameters were (I) 50SiC: 50Cu powder feedstock, (ii) 40 g/min powder feed rate, (iii) 200 L/min air spray rate, (iv) 400 A plasma current, (v) 50 mm spraying distance. After plasma spraying, composite coatings were characterized by various techniques. The composite coating has an adhesion strength of 36 MPa, porosity of 1.29%, hardness of 307 HV, and the content of SiC phase of 65%. The corrosion test in a mixed chamber was used to evaluate the performance of the SiC-50Cu coating for anticorrosion protection of the propeller fan and pump chamber in fluorine-containing corrosion environments.
