Research on fabrication of a ceramic thermal barrier coating used for nozzles of jet engines Abstract Based on the analysis of the working condition requirements for jet engine nozzles, this paper offers the manufacturing process technology for making a ceramic thermal barrier coating system by plasma spraying. The coating system consists of three layers: a bondcoat of Ni20Cr to improve the adhesion between the substrate and ceramic topcoats; a second layer of NiCrAlY to reduce the stress caused by the difference in the thermal expansion between the topcoats; two thermal barrier topcoats of ZrO2-8Y2O3. The experimental results show a good adhesion on 41.8 MPa between the substrate and the coating layer. The coating system is resistant to a constant thermal test at 1750oC and a thermal shock test at 1800oC-600oC. This paper presents a part of the results published in the National Science and Technology Conference on Mechanical - Transportation Engineering in 2016.
